CARL MCCALL ENDORSES YVETTE CLARKE’S CAMPAIGN FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

(NEW YORK, NY) – Former New York State Controller and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Carl McCall today announced his support for City Councilwoman Yvette Clarke’s campaign for New York’s 11th Congressional district.

“I am proud to stand with Yvette Clarke in what is one of the most important Congressional races this city and state have seen in a long time,” said Carl McCall. “In her time in the City Council, Yvette Clarke has been a leader on the issues that matter most to Democrats. Whether it’s her strong opposition of the war in Iraq, her push for universal healthcare or her relentless fight on behalf of womens’ rights, Yvette’s record is unparalleled in this field.”

During his distinguished career, McCall has held a number of top-level positions including State Controller; President of the New York City Board of Education; New York State Senator representing the upper Manhattan district of New York City; Ambassador to the United Nations; Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey; Commissioner of the New York State Division of Human Rights.

“It is a tremendous honor to be endorsed by Carl McCall, one of New York’s leading government officials and spokesman for the African-American community for many, many years,” said City Councilwoman Yvette Clarke. “From standing shoulder to shoulder with working men and women of New York in their battle for a living wage to our staunch support LGBT rights, Carl McCall and I share the same progressive Democratic values.”

McCall joins a growing list of legislators, labor groups and civic leaders backing Clarke’s run for the 11th district. Among the New York leaders endorsing Clarke: Rep,. Anthony Weiner, Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum, former Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, Assemblyman Nick Perry and City Council Members Bill de Blasio, Kendall Stewart, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Annabel Palma, Rosie Mendez, Helen Sears, Melinda Katz, Helen Foster.
