The Democratic primary for the Brooklyn congressional seat first occupied by Rep. Shirley Chisholm is one of the most closely contested races of this election season. The best candidate among four is Councilwoman Yvette Clarke. The daughter of Jamaican immigrants, Clarke - a CARL MCCALL ENDORSES YVETTE CLARKE’S CAMPAIGN FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES NEW YORK, NY) – Former New York State Controller and
Democratic gubernatorial nominee Carl McCall today announced his support
for City Councilwoman Yvette Clarke’s campaign for New York’s
11th Congressional district. Dear Friend, I am New York City Councilmember Yvette Clarke and I am running for Congress because the communities I represent are being harmed by the mean-spirited leadership in power in Washington. An independent voice from Brooklyn is long overdue. I will not stand by while the vast majority of central Brooklyn residents remain marginalized by the policymakers who impact on our lives. Let's Work Together . . . We must expand access to healthcare, not reduce it. We must stand up for new Americans, not criminalize them or criminalize those who help them. We should put our money where our mouth is on education, and make sure our children have top- notch schools. We must protect a woman’s fundamental right to make decisions about her own body, and expand her opportunities to care for herself and her family. We must assure that economic opportunities are inclusive, because our diverse communities must grow together, or our vast potential will not be realized. Now I really need your support . . . PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO CLARKE FOR CONGRESS Act Now, Empowerment Determines our Destiny I believe that we need some common sense leadership that will shift and put our nation back on track in living up to a truly Democratic America, and we must do this together. I’m asking you to be a part of my campaign for Congress. You and I understand that healthcare is a basic human right. Working together we will defend the value of labor and the right to organize in every workplace. You and I together will speak out about the corruption in Washington that threatens our democratic process and has distorted the true meaning of government of the people, for the people and by the people. It's Time for Women Power Women must be greater part of the dialogue in Washington. After all, we're over half the population, yet we account for only 15% of the representatives in Congress. We are often responsible for taking care of our families' health and our communities-- and women, we cannot do that job unless we speak out and impact on public policy. So please join me. We have a small window of time to raise the money needed to be successful, and hundreds of people from the neighborhoods of central Brooklyn have generously given to my campaign. But we need thousands more for our march to the capital building to be successful, so your contribution is of great value and importance. Please make your contribution today. Your support means very much to me and your participation strengthens our future. Our time is now. Sincerely,
